This table is Beauty AND the Beast. It is a grotesque giant doing an arabesque across your back yard. You'll find its obvious construction is pleasing to your eye as you gaze down it's length. Or its width. Crawl under and see how the top is attached with little wooden blocks that slide into neat little grooves. There are over thirty mortise and tenon joints in this table that will make it last a lifetime. And another lifetime. And another lifetime. In fact, you can buy this table for yourself AND your great, great grand daughter.

The Sasquatch Outdoor Dining Table is based on a design from a hundred years ago in a Paris design school when the teacher asked the students to draw the most simple form of a table. Something maybe a child might draw. Their imagination was captured into a table whose legs are at the outer most edges of the corners and form a trapezoidal box. The Parson’s School of Design was the school, and the table has been dubbed a Parson’s table.

The Sasquatch also draws inspiration from Philip Mainzer’s 1994 classic table, Bigfoot, whose big legs terminated at the table top surface and expose the end grain of the wood of the legs. He chose the center of the tree so you could count the annual rings of the tree. Very cool idea. Bigfoot has since become a modern classic (how’s that for a paradox) and been copied at all the Restoration Pottery Pier & Barrels of the world.

Sasquatch is also based on the tables that @masonstpeter and @maraserene have used in their projects. Shout out to Mason who actually told me more about the design as well as the kind folks at @generalstore where they have similar tables built by @beaviebaby.

I have added a rail system, which contains 16 mortise and tenon joints to make the table be sturdy enough for 5 generations and beyond. That’s a whole lotta family dinners and game nights!

Making this Sasquatch table is highly fulfilling because it creates a special place for family and friends to gather together and celebrate life here on this Planet Earth. What a gift.
